Osenovo is a village in North-Eastern Bulgaria, part of Aksakovo municipality, Varna region. It is located 18 km to the south-west from the village of Kranevo, 7 km to the south-west from Albena resort (no direct road is yet built) and 17 km to the south-east from the city of Varna.
general information
Osenovo is a beautiful, small village situated 3 km away from the sea coast. It lies in a small valley, snuggled between green hills from all sides except from east. The steep slopes in its northern side are protecting the village against the turbulent northern winds during the winter, and a beautiful view towards the sea is revealed to the east. Officially, the population of the village is about 280 people but the actual number of its permanent residents is about 350 people. During the summer, the number of the people in Osenovo increases significantly. Altitude – 120 m. The former name of the village used to be Dish Budak. Its current name Osenovo owes to the dense ash-tree forests (in Bulgarian ash-tree is pronounced as “yasen” or “osen”) surrounding it. They provide freshness in the summer and are a wonderful place for hiking.
history
There are evidences that a settlement existed on the territory of the nowadays village ever since the Antiquity. Many artefacts, valuables and remains of Thracian funerals found near the village are now on display in Varna’s Archaeological Museum. A decorated tomb dated back to the Early Christianity was revealed near the village and has been researched in 1981.

In the village there is a community center, an Orthodox church, a doctor’s office, two pastry shops, a mayoralty, food shops, a post-office.
The infrastructure is very good. The roads are in a good condition. The village is supplied with water and electricity on a regular basis. All modern communications are available – internet, coverage of all mobile operators, satellite TV, digital telephone exchange.
A regular public transportation bus-line No. 28 connects the village to the city of Varna.
Nowadays over 15 foreign families are permanently residing in the village. Many people from Varna have decided to settle down in Osenovo and a commuting to their jobs in Varna.
economics and development prospectives
One of the most modern dairy farms in Bulgaria is located in Osenovo. There is a small department there for production of natural yoghurt.
The village is located near the town of Balchik and between two of the largest resorts on the Northern Black Sea coast – Golden Sands and Albena which is an excellent condition for the development of eco and rural tourism. The favourable climate, the fertile soils and the ecologically clean environment advantage the development of plant-growing, vegetable-making and the production of ecologically clean natural products.
landmarks
- Remains of an ancient settlement were found in Kaleto area, in the higher part of the village. It used to be a Roman fortress. Copper coins dated back to the IV B. C. – the time the Roman Empire was ruled by Emperor Constantine the Great – were found in the surroundings.
